The CDC recommends everyone 6 months and older get an updated COVID-19 vaccine to protect against the potentially serious outcomes of COVID-19 illness this fall and winter.

If you have not received a COVID-19 vaccine in the past 2 months, you are eligible to receive the new booster.

The previous monovalent and bivalent doses of the COVID-19 vaccine are no longer authorized in the US.

Who is eligible to receive the vaccine?

What safety measures will Pelham be making when administering COVID-19 vaccines?

Pelham Pharmacy Services knows safety is of utmost importance to patients during the COVID-19 pandemic. In accordance with the CDC and the City of Philadelphia Department of Health, we’re taking health and safety measures including physical distancing, and use of personal protective equipment. These measures will be taken at all time here, and at any clinic location.

Can Pelham Pharmacy services provide the appropriate temperature-controlled storage of the vaccine?

Yes. Pelham is equipped to appropriately store vaccines at manufacturer’s requirements.

Who or Where can I report any adverse event after vaccination?

Please call the pharmacy and follow the instruction on VAERS site to report events: https://vaers.hhs.gov/index.html

Is Pelham Pharmacy only offering COVID-19 vaccinations to current partners and/or patients?

No. Pelham will provide COVID-19 vaccinations to any health care facility, long-term care facility, congregate living community, and/or patient who chooses to utilize Pelham Services as their preferred vaccination provider.

Can Pelham Pharmacy provide vaccination clinics to health care providers not associated with a hospital system or contracted to receive vaccinations by another supplier?

Yes! Pelham plans on offering COVID-19 vaccination clinics to community health care providers, essential businesses, and congregate living settings throughout Philadelphia county. The availability of Pelham being able to do so will be dependent on Philadelphia county provider enrollment guidelines and vaccination allocation.

Do I still need to take protective actions after getting the vaccine (e.g. wearing masks, social distancing)?

Absolutely! It is important for everyone to continue to take careful precautions (such as wearing masks and social distancing) until a large proportion of the population is vaccinated and we are sure the vaccine provides long-term protection. How does the vaccine work? Does this vaccine contain live virus? Is it inactivated?

mRNA vaccines (Pfizer and Moderna) do not contain a live virus and do not carry a risk of causing disease. In contrast, most vaccines use weakened or inactivated versions or components of the disease-causing pathogen to stimulate the body’s immune response to create antibodies.

Is the vaccine that helpful? I heard getting COVID-19 gives you better and longer immunity than the protection a vaccine can give. Can it actually make my illness worse if I do end up getting COVID-19?

Both this disease and the vaccine are new. We don’t know how long protection lasts for those who get infected or those who are vaccinated. What we do know is that COVID-19 has caused very serious illness and death for a lot of people. If you get COVID-19, you also risk giving it to loved ones who may get very sick. Getting a COVID-19 vaccine is a safer choice.
